Atul purohit is a popular name in the world of Gujarati folk music, dandiya & garba. He is specially known for his Sunderkand katha and rendering of devotional songs. He has mesmerized his listeners with devotional numbers like “Tara Vina Shyam” & “Vhalamni Vaat Kai”.

Atul Purohit was born in a small village near Dabhoi in Vadodara district of Gujarat in February 27, 1957. This is the same place where the great Gujarati poet, Dayaram took his last breath. Dabhoi has 6 major temples and is a great pilgrimage for Jains. It seems Purohit was born with a divine vocal chord. With music running in his veins right from childhood , he got his first musical instrument – the harmonium at the tender age of 10. Since then his harmonium has been his true companion. As he grew, he realized he was born to sing and joined the college for training in dramatics.

Still, the journey from anonymity to stardom was not an easy road for the talented young singer. However, his love and dedication for music made this struggle exciting and memorable. Atul Purohit began with performing on the local street with the local artists absolutely free of cost. He entertained audience with his Graba, Bhajans, Sugam sangeet, Classical songs, sufi and folk songs.

Later in 1985, he formed a group with five of his close friends. Atul Purohit then made his mark in the world of music with his album “Tara Vina Shyam” and after that there was no looking back. He established his own troop that is called the Rutambara Group. The group is a major attraction at the United Way of Vadodara and performs during the auspicious season of Navratri.

Atul Purohit and Rutamabara group’s songs, devotional messages and traditional dance performances attract hundreds and thousands of people at his events. Fans get engrossed and perform garba and dandiya during Navratris. It is an electrifying atmosphere and one needs to witness it LIVE to be able to understand its grandeur.

Atul Purohit has toured the entire world and mesmerized people across the globe with his musical renderence. It is his 9th Visit to Australia this September and the man with his troop will tour Perth, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and more.
